Dental Braces in Sydney

Orthodontic braces are fixed dental appliances used to treat bite discrepancies and realign teeth. Applied to the outside of your teeth, orthodontic braces through brackets, wires and bands apply continuous force to the teeth to help them move in the right direction.

Orthoworx provides high-quality adult and child orthodontic braces in Sydney, helping our patients achieve their dream smiles.

What can fixed dental braces help with?

Braces have a great chance of aligning the teeth to the best position for each individual jaw and mitigating serious jaw development issues. Therefore, they can treat a wide range of jaw misalignment problems and efficiently straighten crooked teeth.

At Orthoworx, we will generally recommend braces if you exhibit the following:

  • Crowded teeth.
  • Crooked teeth.
  • Underbites, overbites and crossbites.
  • Limited breathing.
  • Unevenly spaced teeth.
  • Gapped teeth.

Type of Orthodontic braces treatments

Depending on the case, our orthodontist will assess your needs to help you choose the most recommended dental braces treatment for you; at Orthoworx, we have a range of braces treatments, including:

Traditional Braces

Metal braces are the most popular type of dental braces. They use metal brackets that are carefully attached to each tooth. They come in various vibrant colours and are attached by a thin wire, which applies gentle pressure to guide the teeth into the correct positions over time.

Another great option is lingual braces; these brackets are custom-made and placed on the back surface of the teeth, making them completely invisible to others, creating a more discrete alternative.

Ceramic Braces

Made from a clear, transparent ceramic material, these braces blend seamlessly with the natural colour of teeth. This makes them significantly less noticeable compared to traditional metal braces.

Ceramic braces can be a bit pricier and need attention to avoid stains. However, they are a great choice for those who want to feel confident during their orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign®.

Invisalign® offers a revolutionary way to achieve a straighter smile; these teeth clear aligners are custom-made using advanced 3D imaging technology, offering a comfortable and discreet orthodontic solution. Each aligner is worn for approximately one to two weeks and can be easily removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.

Invisalign® provides versatility in correcting overcrowding, spacing, and teeth misalignment, ensuring patients a more comfortable and convenient experience to maintain excellent oral hygiene and enjoy their favourite foods without restrictions.

How Long Does a Brace Treatment Take?

On average, dental braces treatments typically last anywhere from 18 months to 3 years.

Treatment may be completed in around 12 to 18 months for simple cases of mild misalignment or crowding. However, more complex cases involving significant misalignment or bite issues may require a longer treatment duration, ranging from 2 to 3 years.

ORTHODONTICS FAQ

Dental braces are designed to straighten crooked teeth, realign lower and upper jaws, improve the appearance of smiles, and relieve pressure on the temporomandibular joints. Orthodontics will use a variety of treatments to move the teeth and underlying bone, not just teeth braces. Teeth and jaw realignment can be moved at any age, including adults.

Most orthodontic treatments and teeth braces aren’t usually covered under Australian health insurance hospital cover policies. If you are looking to cover the cost of braces for yourself, or your children, you will need to include orthodontics in your private health insurance extras cover.

Getting the braces on your teeth doesn’t hurt. However, once the dental braces have been glued into place, you will generally develop mild discomfort and soreness in your teeth and gums. This is the result of your teeth starting to realign. Soreness usually lasts for 3 to 7 days.

Certain foods can become stuck in braces which makes it difficult to clean them whilst they’re on your teeth. Other foods can be hard enough to damage the metal of traditional and lingual braces and sometimes cause the entire bracket to come off the tooth. Most foods to avoid include hard or chewy foods including hard candy, chewing gum and ice.

The length of time for braces can stay on teeth depends on the severity of your dental issues. For traditional braces, some people may wear braces for anywhere from 18 months to 3 years depending on the situation.

Choosing the orthodontic treatment that works for you depends on the complexity of your dental issue and the orthodontist you choose. You might be dealing with a significant overbite or a case of crooked teeth, it’s advisable to receive the help of professionals to find the best course of treatment for you.

Orthoworx offers a variety of orthodontic treatments and dental braces in Sydney to treat your unique requirements. We offer traditional and lingual braces for both children and adults, interceptive options and Invisalign treatments, each featuring their own benefits. Book a consultation today, and we can tailor a treatment that works just for you.

Both orthodontic treatments are just as effective as the other. While Invisalign treatments are extremely useful for aesthetics, can be removed for eating and cleaning, and aligning simpler dental issues, traditional metal (or ceramic) dental braces are useful for treating more complex issues. Braces are functional, working efficiently and faster to close gaps, align teeth and reshape the jaw structure.

The cost of braces with the help of your private healthcare insurance depends on your current plan, the extras that you have included as well as the complexity of your dental issue. Each private health insurance in Sydney has varying levels of extras, and Orthodontic entitlements that can help you fund your treatment. Contact your health insurance for the exact cost.

Traditional dental braces are generally made from medical-grade metal or surgical stainless steel, with the brackets made from varying types of materials including plastic, metal, ceramic or a combination.

Whilst it’s possible to get teeth braces with dental implants, the treatments aren’t mutually exclusive. Braces are unable to move a dental implant because the titanium implant is fused to the jawbone. Unlike natural teeth, which are supported by the fleshy periodontal ligament, dental implants sit directly in the jawbone. Therefore, braces can’t move them. However, braces are able to align the natural teeth to the implant.

Dental braces change the position of your teeth and jaws by exerting constant pressure to align the teeth to their correct position, altering your smile in the process. The metal, plastic or ceramic brackets that are glued to the teeth hold the archwire in place. The wire is responsible for moving the teeth into a desired position over time. The soft tissue that surrounds the teeth and bone are periodontal ligaments.

The best way to clean braces is using a soft bristle brush and fluoride toothpaste. Follow these key steps and you’re well on your way to a healthy smile.

  • Start brushing the teeth where the tooth crown meets the gum. Ensure you hold your brush so bristles are at a 45-degree angle with the gumline. Brush in small circular motions, working your way around the mouth from one side to another. Spend roughly 10 seconds brushing each tooth.
  • Start brushing the brackets of your braces one by one in a similar circular motion. Spend about 10 seconds on each bracket until you’ve cleaned every one. Brush the brackets on your teeth one by one.
  • Clean under your archwires. Tilt the toothbrush so the bristles can get into the area between your braces.
  • Brush the chewing surface of all your teeth.
  • Brush the inside surfaces of all the teeth.
  • Rinse your mouth with neutral water, and check your teeth in the mirror.
