Smarter Thinking. Brighter Smiles

Creating brighter smiles takes experience. Orthoworx’s dedication to effective results and a smart, effective approach to orthodontic care delivers superior patient service, ensuring that only the right treatment is recommended for each and every patient. We use the following process to assess, suggest and treat every dental concern. We call it ‘smarter thinking’.

Step 1 – Assess

All effective treatments start with an initial consultation with one of our highly trained orthodontic experts. We listen to all of your personal preferences, assess your concern and take photographs of your teeth for further examination. We take into account all of your dental history and lifestyle concerns, to suggest only the best possible treatment for you.

Services Provided Include
  • Braces for kids and adults
  • Invisalign (invisible braces)
  • Growth modification (functional orthodontics)
  • Orthognathic surgical treatment and other procedures

At this initial consultation appointment, records which include photographs of your face and your smile, your dentition and study models of your teeth will be made.

Step 2 – Suggest

Following your first initial consultation our trained experts will provide you with a detailed report and suggested treatment plan. We meet with you to explain our findings and suggest the best course of teeth straightening plan, surgical requirement, brace option and payment plans that meet your personal needs. Once we have your approval, we can commence your course of treatment.

Step 3 – Treat

Because we have an approved, well-considered plan there will be no surprises throughout your treatment, and as little inconvenience to you as possible.

If necessary, the following appointments made need to be organized prior to commencement of your orthodontic treatment.

  • Cleaning and fillings (or any other restorative work) with your regular dentist
  • Consultation with cosmetic dentist for any cosmetic work that may be required

Treatment Methods

Fixed orthodontic appliances, more commonly known as ‘braces’ are devices used to correct the alignment of teeth and discrepancies of the bite. Traditionally they consist of brackets, wires and bands made from stainless steel. The brackets are attached to the teeth using dental adhesive and remain on the teeth for the duration of treatment. A wire is attached to the brackets, providing the necessary continuous force to move the teeth. Additionally, elastic bands, headgear and bite jumping springs may be used to facilitate the correction of the bite.

Orthodontic treatment duration depends on the severity of the malocclusion but usually takes 18-24 months. When the braces are removed, retaining appliances are fitted to hold the teeth in their new position. The retaining appliances may be fixed wires on the inside surfaces of the teeth or removable plates. The fixed wires are left on long term and need to be monitored at routine check ups. The removable plates need to be worn full time for the first 6 months after the completion of treatment and subsequently at night time. Teeth may move back to their original positions if retainers are not worn as directed. See case.

Fixed braces may be labially attached (bonded on the outer surface of the teeth) or lingually attached (bonded on the inner surface of teeth).

Traditional Braces

Traditional Braces

There are 2 types of traditional braces – metal and ceramic. Metal braces are usually used in teenage patients. Ceramic braces are preferred by adult patients as they blend in with the dentition and are much less conspicuous.

Lingual (inside)

Lingual (inside)

These braces are bonded on the inner surfaces of the teeth. Lingual orthodontics is more preferable than the labial orthodontics from a view point of maintenance of patients' appearances. However they can be more costly and adjustment appointments may take longer than conventional braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign

The Invisalign System is a series of clear plastic trays called 'aligners', which are computer generated, when worn in sequence gradually moves your crooked teeth into alignment. This system is available to both young and adult patients. Dr Chan's youngest and oldest patients are 11 and 71 years old respectively! As long as you have good dental health you may be a candidate for Invisalign. Let us assess your dentition and let you know if you are suitable.

Combined treatment methods

A combination of treatment methods discussed previously may be used for your treatment depending on the diagnosis and your treatment goals, and will be determined by Dr Chan.
